This is me, Tim Adler.

I'm a technology-enthusiast, project-whisperer and developer.

For more than 15 years, I have been working as a designer, developer and tech-manager. At the moment I'm working as Head of Development / Chief technology officer at Hanse Ventures a startup-incubator in Hamburg.

Since taking the first steps as a developer up until today, where I've been lucky enought to have worked "hands on" and in different areas of management, I've always seen my job as a translator between business and engineering.

Thoughts about my work

Typically a project goes smoothest and is most reliable when everybody is "on the same page". Sadly this is one of the hardest things to achieve in technology-projects. You got developers which are deep down in the bowels of the machine on the one hand and marketing and management on the other, who commonly have customer and market interests at hand.

This can go "off the rails" in a really crazy amount of ways. From producing solutions for non-existing problems to solutions that are not understandable by the end-user and contributes no business-value.

My history

In the past I was lucky to be tasked with organizing technology-projects and supporting top-managers in a lot of different scenarios. I've helped to solve business- and product-problems in classic industries and online environments. I've been a tech-translator to CEOs and boards and lead-developer to software-engineering teams.

Also I have worked in a wide array of functions. Ranging from pure web or UX designer to backend-developer and CEO.

Coaching about technology and
building products are my passion

What I as an IT-manager

Create productive product-teams

People that work in product-create, like designers and software-engineers are often motivated by things that are unintuitive for business-management. I understand them and can help to create effective teams.

Choose sustainable architecture

Choices you make when building products or setting up your infrastructure silently defines what you'll be able to do with ease in the future. I help to make those things transparent and advise on the right choices.

Automate business-processes

Every step of business deals with data nowadays. Automating them helps to reduce errors and improves scalability. After all you processes are your competitive advantage. I know how to choose and automate the right processes

Secure data and stay compliant

Choice you make when building products or setting up your infrastructure silently defines what you'll be able to do with ease in the future. I help to make those things transparent and advise on the right choices.

What I as a product-developer

Design outstanding user-interfaces

The amount of value created by a usable interfaces is so great that it should always be kept in focus. I know which trade-offs are cheap but valueable and have done both design and code in a lot of projects.

Write communicative and maintainable code

The burden of "quickfixes" and "technical debt" can weigh heavily on your business after some time. It also makes hiring great people more difficult. I can help keep a good balance between being fast and thorough.

Adjust and test constantly

What was a good idea before starting into a project can become a resource hog fast. An agile development process can come to the rescue. I have steared several agile projects and know when to reiterate.

Build stable infrastructure

There is no faster way to burn through marketing budgets as when you have a campaign running, but your website is offline due to high traffic. I know how to build and monitor infrastructure that can withstand.
